The WLUGSA Executive is made up of the President, VP: Administration, Academic & Research Director, & Student Affairs Director. Their terms run from May 1-April 30.

PRESIDENT - Ashley Coleman

Bio:

Ashley completed both a Bachelor’s Degree in English & Sociology in 2011 and a Master’s of Social Work Degree in 2013 at Laurier, fostering her desire to be involved within the University in various capacities throughout the past six years. Ashley’s involvement with the Graduate Students’ Association has primarily been with the Board of Directors, serving as both Chair of the Board (2012/2013) and a Director of the Board (2011/2012), whilst also sitting on various committees of the association.

In addition to her involvement with the GSA, Ashley is also passionate about policy and programming around homelessness in the community, and has occupied numerous roles within the Region of Waterloo’s Social Services Department, including two positions with the Social Planning, Policy and Program Administration Division. Furthermore, Ashley volunteers her time generously to events, programs and organizations within the tri-cities which focus on homelessness and/or mental health.

Duties:

The President serves as Chief Executive Officer of the GSA and is fully responsible for carrying out the Constitution & Bylaws, policies, regulations, and resolutions of the Corporation. They represent the GSA internally at Laurier, overseeing all business and services operations, including the management of staff.
 
The President serves as the Executive Liaison to the Priorities and Planning Committee, and sits on the WLU Student Services Advisory Committee, WLU Finance Appeals Committee, WLU Senate (ex-officio), WLU Board of Governors (ex-officio), and other committee vacancies as needed. They also serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.

Duties:

The Vice President: Administration ensures the finances of the Corporation are in order and handled in a responsible manner. They are responsible for all matters pertaining to GSA policies, and in the absence or the liability of the President or Chair of the Board, the Vice President: Administration performs their duties.

The Vice President: Administration serves as the Executive Liaison for the Finance and Policy Committees, and sits on the WLU Student Services Advisory Committee and WLU Finance Committee. They also coordinate student volunteers on all WLU Finance and Administration committees, and serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.

ACADEMIC & RESEARCH DIRECTOR - Domenica De Pasquale

Duties:

The Academic & Research Director addresses internal and external issues affecting Members with respect to their academic and research endeavors, and raises awareness of these issues. They are responsible for strengthening the graduate student community through the creation of valuable events and programming within the scope of academics and research. The Academic & Research Director works with appropriate partners across the university to resolve issues of student concern.

The Academic & Research Director sits on the Policy Committee, WLU Academic Planning Committee, WLU Committee on Information Technologies, WLU Committee on Instructional Development, and the WLU Committee on Research and Publications. They also coordinate student volunteers on all WLU Academic committees, and serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.

STUDENT AFFAIRS DIRECTOR - Kayleigh Abbott

Duties
:

The Student Affairs Director is responsible for fostering and strengthening the graduate student community through the creation, planning and execution of events that meet the needs of graduate students as a diverse collective with varied interests. They  address internal and external issues affecting Members with respect to the community of graduate students, and raise awareness of these issues particularly through the coordination of campus clubs. The Student Affairs Director works with appropriate partners across the university to resolve issues of student concern.

The Student Affairs Director sits on the Policy Committee, and at least three WLU committees. They also coordinate student volunteers on all WLU Student Affairs committees, and serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.
