As outlined in our Constitution, there are times when a referendum of the members is required to demonstrate support for a new fee, initiative, or to increase fees by more than 5%. Students will be contacted via their @mylaurier.ca email address when a referendum question is asked.
Winter Semester 2019 Referendum Questions:
There are two third-party questions being asked this year.
All registered graduate students will be asked the following questions on February 12th via electronic ballot:
Do you support a fee of $3.63 per term to retain membership in the Laurier Students' Public Interest Research Group (LSPIRG) from Fall term 2019 through Spring term 2024? This fee will have an opt-out provision.
LSPIRG is a student-funded non-profit organization that provides support and advocacy by and for campus and community members marginalized by systemic oppression, through cultivating meaningful relationships, political education, and equitable community-building. This fee will have an opt-out provision.

Do you agree to replace the current International Students Overcoming War (ISOW) fee of $4.00 each term (scheduled to expire April 30th, 2020), with a new fee of $4.00 per term from Fall 2019 through Spring 2024, for the International Students Overcoming War Scholarship Fund to enable additional graduate students from international conflict zones to study at Laurier?
ISOW is a student-led and student-funded humanitarian initiative at Wilfrid Laurier University. ISOW seeks to meaningfully respond to the devastating impacts of war by providing full scholarships to students from conflict areas. We also seek to educate Laurier students about the impacts of international conflicts by promoting intercultural learning and globally-engaged citizenship.

Ontario Graduate Student Alliance:
Do you accept a mandatory fee of $2.37 to be assessed in the Fall semester each year until April 2020, that will support the Graduate Students' Association advocacy efforts at the municipal, provincial and federal level as a member of the Ontario Graduate Student Alliance?

Do you support a decrease in the graduate student Prism fee from $125 to $65 per term?
Asked of ll registered Lazaridis School of Business students and passed with 97.6% of the vote.
“Do you support the Grand River Transit U-Pass program for full-time graduate students enrolled at Laurier Waterloo Campus with the mandatory fee and terms outlined?”
Asked of full time Waterloo campus students and passed with 62% of the vote.
"Do you accept the proposed Constitution as the replacement for the current Constitution?"
Asked to all GSA members and passed with 91% of the vote.
“Do you approved the implementation of a non-refundable student levy of $4 in the Fall Semester and $4 in the Winter Semester beginning May 1, 2015 and ending April 301th, 2020 for the International Students Overcoming War Scholarship Fund to enable graduate students from international conflict zones to study at Laurier?”
Asked of all GSA members and passed with 75% of the vote.
“Do you support the GSA maintaining membership with the Ontario Graduate Student Alliance until April 2017 at the cost of $2.35 per graduate student per year to be assessed with the Fall tuition statement?”
Asked of all GSA members and passed with 69% of the vote.
“Considering the terms outlined, do you support full membership in the Wilfrid Laurier University Graduate Students’ Association, with all its rights and responsibilities, for all full and part time students studying within the Waterloo Lutheran Seminary?”
Asked of all seminary students and passed with 100% of the vote.
