Help Shape the Graduate Student Experience at Laurier
The Graduate Students' Association (GSA) is seeking graduate student volunteers to serve as Committee Representatives on a variety of university committees.
Committee Representatives play an important role in ensuring that graduate student perspectives are considered in university decision-making. By serving on a committee, you'll contribute your insights, experiences, and ideas while helping shape policies, programs, services, and initiatives that impact the Laurier community.
Whether you're passionate about academics, student services, equity and inclusion, research, or governance, there are opportunities to get involved and make a meaningful contribution while honing your skills.

What Is the Time Commitment?
Committee commitments vary, but most committees meet between one and four times per term, with occasional preparation or review of meeting materials beforehand.
Meeting schedules are established by the committee and may be held in person, virtually, or in a hybrid format.

Grad Faculty Council Representatives
Volunteer Position with Honorarium
The Faculty Representative is a part of the GSA Student Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Faculty Representative Coordinator. This position is responsible for connecting with graduate students within the faculty through pre-determined outreach initiatives, identifying any barriers to graduate student success and bringing them to the attention of the Faculty Representative Coordinator. The position will also be responsible for fostering partnerships and a sense of community within their faculty by creating welcoming spaces for graduate students to provide their feedback.

Library Council Representative
Volunteer Position with Honorarium
Meets Monthly/Monthly Meetings (September - ?)
The Library Council is one of Laurier's Senate Divisional Councils, and meets regularly to consider and make recommendations to the University Librarian and the Senate on library policy, among other duties.
Areas of interest related to this committee: Students passionate about research, scholarly resources, and library services who have ideas for improving the academic experience and supporting open, accessible scholarship.

Laurier Advisory Committee on Teaching and Learning (LACTL)

Time Committment?
The Laurier Advisory Committee on Teaching and Learning (LACTL) is responsible for enhancing the quality of teaching and learning across Laurier. This committee meets regularly to discuss supporting faculty and students through emerging issues, review grant applications and awards nominations, and help shape the direction of teaching at Laurier.
Areas of interest related to this committee: Students passionate about teaching and learning, especially Teaching Assistants or those interested in improving the educational experience for faculty and students.

Senate Student Appeals Committee
Volunteer Position with Honorarium
Time Commitment?
The mandate of the Senate Student Appeals Committee derives from one of the powers of Senate, as per the Willfrid Laurier University Act: to “hear and determine appeals from the decisions of the faculty councils on applications and examinations by students.” The Committee is responsible for establishing rules and procedures for the hearing and determination of appeals; the establishment or revision of such procedures is subject to the approval of Senate.
Areas of interest related to this committee: Students who value fairness, confidentiality, and sound judgment, and are comfortable reviewing complex situations objectively.

Non-Tuition Fee Protocol (NTFP) Committee
Volunteer Position with Honorarium
The Non-Tuition Fee Protocol (NTFP) Committee provides oversight of Laurier's process for reviewing, introducing, and modifying compulsory non-tuition fees, ensuring that proposed fees comply with provincial guidelines and the University's NTFP Agreement. The committee brings together representatives from the University and student associations to review proposed fee changes, promote transparency, and ensure meaningful student consultation before recommendations advance through the University's governance process. Its recommendations inform the annual Non-Tuition Fee Report, which is subsequently considered by the Finance, Investments & Property Committee and approved by the Board of Governors.
