Faculty Representatives

The GSA President & CEO will convene a faculty representative advocacy council to hear from members of the graduate student community and advocate on their behalf. Positions will be:

  • Arts (1)

  • Balsillie (1)

  • Education (1)

  • Human and Social Sciences (1)

  • Lazaridis (1)

  • Liberal Arts (1)

  • Music (1) 

  • Science (2; 1 Waterloo rep, 1 Brantford rep)

  • Luther (1)

  • Social Work (1)

Position Overview

  • Connect with graduate students within the faculty and bring forward ideas to the council

  • Identify thematic institutional barriers to graduate student success and help develop strategies to advocate for change

  • Create/continue partnerships within the Laurier community to enhance the graduate student experience

  • Provide insight and advice to the President & CEO regarding the graduate student experience in the respective faculties as requested

  • Creates and promotes a diverse work environment

  • Serve on other committees within the faculty needing graduate student representation

Committee participation (commitments may change as required):

    • Annual Plan development team

    • Serve on Graduate Faculty Council

    • Other committee vacancies as needed

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of government and institutional policies and their impact on the graduate student experience

  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, transparency, and accountability

  • Interpersonal skills required to effectively interact with staff, volunteers, members, and the University Community

  • Past participation with the GSA is an asset

  • Experience working in a University environment is an asset

Terms of Employment 

Term: May 1st, 2024 until April 30th, 2025 (must be an enrolled student the entire duration) 

Honorarium: $750/summer semester, $1000/fall semester, $1000/winter semester

Training:  

  • Participate in GSA training

  • Participate in sensitivity training

  • Complete AODA training

  • Complete Health and Safety training

Work Environment 

  • Self-directed position: flexibility in determining some working hours 

  • Varying amounts of unexpected work and time demands 

  • Must be able to cope with the demands required of the position 

  • Work is at times required during weekends and evenings 

  • Work will take place primarily in a controlled office environment, but also in a variety of event locations around campus
