Waterloo, ON… The Wilfrid Laurier University Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeremy Wagner to the position of President & CEO for the period June 6th, 2022 – April 30th, 2023. Jeremy will be President & CEO In Training from May 1st, 2022 – June 3rd, 2022, offering the opportunity to train and develop under the direction and leadership of current President & CEO, Alishau Diebold.
"Over the last year, exceptional leadership has been required as we navigated unforeseen and unique circumstances. I'd like to express my gratitude to Alishau Diebold, our outgoing President and CEO, for the extraordinary work she accomplished and the numerous innovative ways she supported graduate students at Laurier. We wish Alishau all the best on her upcoming professional endeavours. Accordingly, we have recruited an experienced and committed leader who comprehends the diverse and often layered needs of graduate students. Jeremy Wagner joins the GSA with extensive experience advocating for food security and justice, community organising, and as a previous GSA student leader. As a Board, we look forward to seeing Jeremy’s continued efforts to bring the GSA's strategic plan and visions to life situated within equity, diversity, and inclusion frameworks. Our elected Board members look forward to working with Jeremy to address the needs of our graduate students. Please join me and the rest of the Board in congratulating Jeremy on his appointment as President & CEO!” – Amandeep Kaur Singh, Chair of the Board of Directors
“It is a great honour to welcome Jeremy to the GSA. He is a distinguished scholar and activist who brings leadership, communication, creativity, and community development skills to all he does. Since I began working with Jeremy in 2021, it has been very apparent that he cares deeply about those he works with and has a deep-rooted commitment to justice and equity. I have no doubt that Jeremy will collaborate with students, university partners and members of our community to identify key priorities and strengthen graduate student experiences on all campuses.” - Alishau Diebold, President & CEO
Jeremy is a PhD candidate in the School of International Policy and Governance studying urban food security and food system transformation. He holds a Bachelor of Arts specialising in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of the Fraser Valley, and a Master of International Public Policy from Wilfrid Laurier University. Jeremy has served in leadership positions with the GSA since 2018 and is an experienced advocate, mediator, and community organiser. His work supports food security and food justice initiatives in the Waterloo Region community and he does so through deeply collaborative and anti-oppressive approaches. In this role, Jeremy will continue his work by implementing strategies that empower students, improve overall well-being, and build transparent relationships with community partners.
“It is a distinct pleasure and honour to be serving Laurier graduate students in this role. As an organisation, the GSA listens to our community, builds unity through our shared experiences, and amplifies our collective voice. I firmly believe that this requires an unwavering commitment to collaboration. Doing so builds authentic relationships and empowers our team members to bring their whole selves to improving graduate student experiences. I am eager to co-create the kinds of transformational opportunities that inspire me to do this work.” – Jeremy Wagner, President & CEO In-Training
